  1. I liked Noll’s book.

    It seemed like a good big picture introduction to the subject of Church history. It was short on detail, but that’s expected in a book like this. Noll usually introduced each turning point by giving some details about it specifically. But then he used that circumstance as an introduction to the larger issues and trends it typified. In this way, he was able to briefly sketch the turnings and twistings of a complex subject.

    If you’ve read this book too, please post your thoughts about it! It would really help me think more carefully about it. Thanks.

    (On a side note: I’ll be able to better evaluate this book, and subsequent ones, once I’ve read a few more of them. Since this is the first one, it kind of gets short shift.)
